Chapter 2
ABIGAIL:

Q: How did you get involved with DIVAS SIMPLY SINGING
A: I have known Sheryl Lee Ralph and Paul Papile, who arranged the show, for quite a long time. We keep bumping into each other at events. I’ve known about the event for such a long time and it’s an honor that they asked me to be a part of it this year.
Q: Is this your first time performing here?
A: Yes
Q: Do you feel any pressure being in the company of DIVAS?
A: Pressure? Goodness me, the most nerve-racking day of my life was yesterday in that rehearsal room. These ladies are so talented and so wonderful and beautiful. It’s a thrill to be a part of it.
Q: Who designed your fabulous red dress?
A: Alan Del Rosario made it just for me.
Q: What are you going to sing this evening?
A: MY FUNNY VALENTINE by Rogers & Hart and a lot of people will be very surprised by my choice.

Chapter 3

Q: How did you get involved in this event?
A: I’ve been an audience member for 2 years and a big supporter of different AIDS benefits. This one in particular is very special. Sheryl Lee’s an angel and people keep coming back for more. Hopefully, we won’t have to do benefits like this but in the meantime this is an amazing space to entertain and raise money for these charities.
Q: How did you pick this song for this evening?
A: It was chosen by the director and it just happens to be a song I sing, FEVER, and everybody’s got it. I wanted to do something more fun. I’m a 'belter ' and I could do all the soul stuff. But I thought I’d leave that to Roberta Flack and do my thing and bring a fun and lighter note to the evening.

ELIZABETH BERKLEY:

Q: Who designed your dress?
A: Ralph Lauren, my favorite.
Q: Most people don’t know you’re a Diva.
A: I’m a singer, dancer and an actress. In Hollywood these days you only get to show mainly the acting and once in a while I’ve been able to dance. No singing yet but I’ve been studying for years. I did a play in London last year where I sang for 1000 people a night so I’m used to it. I’m excited and I’m honored to be with all these amazing women. The whole rehearsal process has been inspiring and I want to do it more.

Chapter 6

Q: What made you choose this particular song?
A: It’s something that I feel. It’s something that really moves me. I’m someone who emotes and who’s more dramatic in the way I sing. It has to be something that moves me that I want to perform and give myself to.
Q: How does it feel to be a Diva?
A: I’m a diva in training, way training, Kindergarten.

MOE DANIELS

Q: Is this your first time out at the 11th Annual DIVAS Simply Singing?
A: It’s my very first time out and I’m a little nervous but it’s great to be here and it’s a great cause.
Q: Tell me about Sheryl Lee’s powers of persuasion to get you out here.
A: She didn’t have to persuade me, I begged. I was like please, can I do this. She didn’t have to persuade me. It was a given that I would try and I would beg her and persuade her to allow me to participate.
Q: What will you be singing tonight?
A: ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART by Burt Bacharach

Chapter 7

NNENNA FREELON

Q: Is this your first time performing at DIVAS Simply Singing?

A: No, I’m a second time Diva.
Q: Tell me about Ms. Ralph’s powers of persuasion.
A: You don’t say no to her. You say yes to whatever she’s asking. It’s a wonderful cause. It’s wonderful to be in the company of such great singers and we really have a great time.
Q: Are there any concerns with being with all of these Divas?
A: Only for space at the mirror. No, everyone has the same goal in mind. To do a good thing and be on our best behavior.
Q: How do you pick a song that captures a night like tonight?
A: I’m singing JUST IN TIME. I picked it because I think timing means a lot. You can be a little too late for something and miss something. I’m glad, I think we’re all just in time to do a good thing.

SHERYL LEE RALPH & ROBERTA FLACK

TIFFANY

Q: Is this your first year out at DIVAS Simply Singing?
A: Yes, this is my first year out.
Q: Tell me how you got involved in this event.
A: My manager told me about this great cause. And I’m so excited to be in great company.
Q: Is there any pressure dealing with "Divas"?
A: No, at rehearsal I was listening to everyone’s voice and how gifted everyone is individually. How God has blessed people with a voice but yet everyone has their own little thing happening. It’s going to be a great show. I’m really excited.
Q: How did you choose a song for tonight’s performance?
A: It was easy for me. I’m singing, COULD’VE BEEN.

DIANA KING
DIANA KING

Chapter 12

Q: How do you pick a Diva to participate in tonight’s show?
A: The first 16 women that say yes and it just so happens that every year we get a star studded line up.

SHERYL LEE RALPH

Q: This is such a fabulous event that’s been going on for 11 years, how much longer do you plan to commit to this event?
A: We’ve got to do it for as long as we can. As long as we have no cure, as long as people continue to ignore what’s going on with our human community at large. As long as we continue to die or suffer there will be a need for why we’re here. We’re seeing a rise in ignorance and apathy and even a trivialization of what’s going on with the disease and with the Divas on stage now we represent the fastest growing new group of AIDS cases, second only to teenagers of all colors.
