| "THE WOMAN CHASER" July 21, 2000 by Margi Blash Tarmac Films will release "The Woman Chaser" in Los Angles July 21st, 2000. Based on the psycho-pulp classic by Charles Willeford Written and Directed by Robinson Devor The Woman Chaser is a black comedy starring Patrick Warburton as Richard Hudson, mostly known from his memorable character as Elaine's boyfriend "Puddy" on Seinfeld. But this allows audiences to see him in a different light. The film takes place in the 1960's in Los Angeles and directed and written by first time feature director Robinson Devor. So far the film has been well reviewed as numerous film festivals including 37th New York Film Festival (1999), 2000 Sundance Film Festival, Audience Award - SXSW 2000 Film Festival, Special Jury Award - FLA. Film Festival 2000.The Woman Chaser also stars Emily Newman as Laura, Eugene Roche as the Used Car Dealer, Lynette Bennett as Mother, Joe Durrenberger as Chet Wilson, Ron Morgan as Bill, Pat Crowder as Salvation Army Lady, Mel Hampton as Flaps Hartwell, Marilyn Rising as Becky, and Paul Malevitz as Leo Steinberg. Manmade Multimedia sat down with Patrick Warburton and asked him a few questions about the Woman Chaser. MM: Why should we see this movie. PW: "It's interesting, intreging, and unpredictable. The audience will never know what to expect from Richard and will be constantly surprised throughout the film" MM: What did you enjoy about making the film? PW: "It's a darkly perverse obscure nature of a project. It was difficult though with the long hours and intense work schedule. In these type of films you have to sacrifice some, the money, the 34 degree nights, and transposing my truck into my dressing room"
PW: "No I wasn't. It would have cost me around $250. There was one on the internet that was in pristine condition, complete with strink wrap and 5 cents printed on the cover. But I knew that working with Robertson Devor, he knew exactly what he wanted and made sure he got it. He was particular to stay true to the book and was accurate to the story. MM: Did you enjoy this character and do you hope that it will open more doors? PW: "I believe that as an actor you must constantly re-invent and re-create yourself. People get bored seeing you play the same way all the time. I hope that I haven't gotten pinned as a Puddy character forever. I was only on Seinfeld for 9 episodes but I guess it was a memorable character. It was a high profile show and I am grateful for it. It was a blessing." You can see, or should I say hear, Patrick Warburton in the new Buzz Lightyear movie. THE WOMAN CHASER - SYNOPSIS Richard Hudson, an inveterate woman-chaser and gifted used-car salesman, possesses a pimp's understanding of the ways in which women (and men) are most vulnerable-and justifies his seductions with a highly perverse logic. By day, he works his crooked car lot with much success. By night, he returns home to a family of misfits: an adoring, ageless mother; her washed up husband, an ex-film director who is twenty years her junior; and a curious teenage step-sister ripe for corruption. One day Richard is seized by a feeling of terror and revulsion; he realizes he's wasting his life in the meaningless pursuit of money. His only hope, he decides, is to abandon the used-car game and try his hand at something creative- an ambitious and risk-laden project that will "tie up in a single package his reason for existing." The fact that he has no experience in the arts means little to Richard. "Experts" are enlisted, and like a ringleader engineering a crime, he moves forward with volatile and unyielding energy. Richard completes his cherished project. But forces beyond his control swiftly reject and destroy it. As a result, the enraged and humiliated used-car salesman goes on a bender for the ages - drinking his way through the underbelly of Los Angeles and exacting a monstrous revenge on all who have crossed him. |
