JOHN TRAVOLTA "AMBASSADOR-AT-LARGE" FOR QANTAS

At a press conference held on Monday, June 24, 2002 megastar JOHN TRAVOLTA received his pilot wings for Australian-based Qantas international airlines. Travolta has long had a passion for aviation. He took his first flying lessons in 1970 and has since logged almost 5000 personal and professional flying hours. Mr. Travolta is part of Qantas’ Spirit of Friendship tour and will fly from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, London, Rome, Paris, Frankfurt and New York before returning to Los Angeles.

Travolta explains his participation in this tour, "I’m undertaking this tour to extend the hand of friendship – to reach out, to cross borders, make contact, rekindle friendships and make new friends. That’s why I’ve teamed up with Qantas, an airline which embodies the spirit of Australia and the spirit of friendship. I’ve always admired the Qantas safety record and culture and I’ve been attracted to its values of quality, openness and friendliness."

As "Ambassador-at-Large" for Qantas John will interact with fellow Qantas employees in each market on his global tour.

At a luncheon on June 20, 2002, the Los Angeles Recording Academy acknowledged one of the biggest names in pop, dance and R&B music, JANET JACKSON, at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Recording Academy presents the prestigious Governors Award to recognize creative and artistic talents and service to the Recording Academy.
