7.26.10 - COMIC-CON
by: Memo Menos

COMIC-CON celebrated 40 years with it's mob scene in San Diego over the weekend. Hollywood was in full force and effect, at the one-time comic book show. ANGELINA JOLIE was on hand Friday for a panel on her new action, spy-thriller, SALT. SYLVESTER STALLONE, BRUCE WILLIS, DOLPH LUNGREN, STEVE AUSTIN, STEVE CREWS and RANDY COUTURE were there to promote THE EXPENDABLES. WILL FERRELL and TINA FEY pitched MEGAMIND. MICHAEL CERA and ANNA KENDRICK previewed SCOTT PILGRIMvs. THE WORLD. RYAN REYNOLDS represented THE GREEN LANTERN, with SETH ROGAN hyping THE GREEN HORNET. And that was just a taste. CHEVY CHASE, RAINN WILSON, SETH MacFARLANE, EVA MENDES KENNETH BRABAUGH, HARRISON FORD, NATALIE PORTMAN, MILLA JOVOVICH, ALI LARTER, BLAKE LIVELY, MARY-LOUISE PARKER, DAVID DUCHOVNY, and, stars of V, ELIZABETH MITCHELL and MORENA BACCARIN were also there. The hugely popular fanfest was marred by a stabbing incident Saturday afternoon in Hall H, where a man was stabbed with a pen after an altercation over a seat, at an overflowing panel. It was a rare discordant note at a festival that is big on drama, large on attendance, and short on space. Officials revealed that they had to turn away 400 exhibitors, and there is talk of the convention leaving San Diego for a bigger venue-perhaps the Los Angeles Convention Center? In any event, the confab is set to return to San Diego for 2011 and 2012, with next years dates already set for July 21-24. Get your hotel rooms now, if you still can.

Walt Disney Pictures advances the world of “TRON”— 27 years have passed, and now, “TRON: LEGACY” is poised to offer a whole new generation of moviegoers a chance to experience a digital universe beyond imagining. Following the film’s unprecedented third appearance at the festival that started it all — Comic-Con International — fans had the opportunity to join in the celebration, as the film’s stars and filmmakers ‘come down from the dais.

The film’s JEFF BRIDGES (Kevin Flynn), BRUCE BOXLEITNER (Alan Brady), JAMES FRAIN, and BEAU GARRETT were joined by director JOE KOSINSKI, producer SEAN BAILEY and other filmmakers — including STEVEN LISBERGER, creator of “TRON” — on the red carpet and inside Flynn’s Arcade.
