DEUCE BIGALOW: NOW THAT'S WORTH PAYING FOR

I'm sick and tired of reading these reviews that poo poo movies with a bit of toilet humor. The NEW YORK TIMES, the L.A. TIMES, VARIETY, TIME, PEOPLE, none of them gave DEUCE a decent review. But I have to tell you, this is one of the funniest movies you'll ever see. And when you walk out of the theater after watching DEUCE, you won't feel flipped over and done dry, like you do just about every other time you see a major studio film. The last time I laughed so much, and so hard, CAMERON DIAZ was sharing gel with BEN STILLER. Yes this movie is as funny as last year's runaway smash, SOMETHING ABOUT MARY.

Too bad ROB SCHNEIDER didn't write and cast some charming, up and comer actress as the central focus here, then the critics may have bellied up to the DEUCE bandwagon. But so be it. The main man here is SCHNEIDER. He, along with help from some other pimp wrote this film, and SCHNEIDER shines as an often nude or semi-nude plumber, fish tank cleaner, house sitter, lover(sort of) for hire, fish friend and savior, therapist, masseuse, guide, and romantic. The film is hilarious.

But the real magic with DEUCE BIGALOW is that it doesn't pander. Oh sure, there is, so called "toilet humor". Gasp! What movie doesn't resort to some distasteful joke, or gratuitous nudity, or freaky sex, or wanton violence to draw audiences into some ridiculous story with no redeeming message or values. This movie on the other hand is scatological, vulgar, irreverent to MARLO THOMAS (who is great in a quick spot), fat people, people with over active glands, those with Tourette's Syndrome, narcoleptics, amputees, whores, homoerotics, exhibitionists, those with small penises, sloven minority pimps, or even pumped, bronzed, gigolos. But the message that the movie delivers is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Not even DISNEY films tie things up in such a positive, pretty red ribbon like this anymore. DEUCE does not compromise his values once in the film. He is a simple, honest, decent, caring, sensitive, hard working, romantic and loving character, and none of these values are traded for any of the "toilet" jokes. Instead, it is the perpetration of these good things, that is the film's story. Be who you are, do the right thing and you will succeed, get the girl, and make people laugh, and laugh and laugh, all along the way. Go see this movie! Really!
