The Phenomenon of Sony's Play Station 2
By Erin Chang
Personally, I find video games annoying, particularly when it consumes the time, energy and attention of those that you love and want quality time with. Am I getting to personal, or am I just being a girl. Okay, I admit , I have had fun times playing a few games, but never could a video game hold my interest for more than an hour!
Never the less, despite my oppinions, video game companies are making the bucks. So what makes video game players so engaged in playing for endless hours? Maybe video games take away the insecurities that game players have in the real world, by playing animated heroes in the cyberspace world. Or maybe it is a form of stress relief from a hard day of work. All you have to do is punch away at a few buttons and you can kill that enemy of yours. And just maybe, its fun to do something like fight or fly a spaceship, since you'd never get a chance to do it in your own boring life.
Right now I am rooming with 3 males, and I have never learned so much about video games and sports. One day one of the guys came home excited about the news of Sony coming out with the new Play Station 2. Upon hearing the news about this game system bringing " together games, music and movies" and the fact that it "will redefine entertainment lifestyle serving as a network platform in the broadband area." I was amazed at this new world we live in.
When Play Station 2 comes out in October 2000 offering a small little black box that plays old and new Sony video games, CDs and DVD movies, I know that Sony will hit a much larger market of customers than they have before. I wouldn't mind having one! Play Station 2 seems compact, affordable and convenient for not only the die hard game players but the die hard music and movie buffs too! Oh my god, I'm buying into this! |
