Bye Bye Bette
3/15/01
CBSs "Bette" starring none other than Bette Midler joins the list of cancelled star driven sitcoms including: Michael Richards, John Goodman, Gabriel Byrne, and the soon to be axed "The Geena Davis Show". The cancellation came as a surprise to fans last week. Ms. Bette Midler had won two recent awards for her role as "New Comedy Actress" at both the Peoples Choice Awards and TV Guide Awards just a week ago. Ms. Midler has noted many times that "this was the hardest thing I ever done in my life". Bette Midler has always been known as a perfectionist when it comes to her work, but with the fast paced schedule of sitcoms, it appears she just couldnt make it work. Bette Midler has been working for over 40 years in the business, so I am sure shes a pro when it comes to rejection and already has plans for her next venture.

Jack Tripper has balls
A viewer last week complained to Nickolodean about an obscene scene in a re-run episode of "Three's Company" Apparently, John Ritter is lying on the bed in only his boxers and his scrotum falls out. The scene will be edited for your future "G rated" viewing pleasure. It makes you wonder how no one noticed this before, considering the years it's been in re-runs, or exactly how hard was this viewer watching this 1970's sitcom. Do people really still watch it?
HBO's Sopranos Recording Breaking Season Premiere:
The third season opener of HBO's The Sopranos (a two hour back-to-back episode) had approximately 11.3 million viewers. The first time in history when a cable show has beat out all network shows combined.
Frasier gets a raise!
NBC will fork over $5.2 million per Frasier episode to keep the multi-Emmy award winning comedy on the network for another three years, taking it through the 2003-04 season. Frasier, which debuted on Sept. 16, 1993 is now in its eight season. Given Kelsey Grammer played the role of Frasier for nine years on Cheers (1984-93), his tenure as the good doctor will reach the 20-year landmark.
